Wangsel Institute for the Deaf, established on June 1, 2003, helps individuals with Deafness develop language, literacy, identity, and self-esteem, access education, promote inclusion, and secure employment within their communities as confident, participating members of society.

To produce holistically educated and skilled Deaf students.

mission

  • Provide access to national curriculum with adaptation and modification.
  • Enhance Bhutanese Sign Language (BhSL) research and documentation for recognition as the legitimate language of the Deaf community of Bhutan.
  • Provide Prevocational/Vocational skills in existing trades.
  • Develop staff capacity in Deaf education.
  • Coordinate and liaise with different stakeholders for the transition and placement of senior students.
