Milestone Achieved  in Capacity Building : Certification of Deaf instructors

Deaf instructors of the institute underwent a month-long training on “Teaching Sign Language to the Deaf children”. They were trained with essential skills such as child psychology and language acquisition of deaf children according to children’s cognitive milestones. Teaching process and the pedagogy as per the key stage (kindergarten, Primary and secondary), were the main content of the training. The training highlighted the importance of developing age -appropriate lessons and assessment following blooms taxonomy.  The trainees had microteaching for practical experience with feedback and recommendations from their trainers.

The training programme is a part of capacity building and Deaf Empowerment under the “Academic Enhancement Plan” of the institute. The Institute is grateful to UNICEF for supporting with the fund under the RGoB in collaboration with the MoESD.

With this successful completion of this training, they are now certified and empowered to teach Sign Language to deaf children which actually they have been teaching students without the formal training being received. Their accomplishment would immensely benefit Deaf students in learning Sign Language for quality education to be a productive citizen of our country at large.
