Professional Exchange Program at Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deafblind

10-10-2025

The SEN Core Team had the privilege to visit India for professional training at the Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf-Blind (HKIDB) and the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech & Hearing Disabilities (AYJNISHD). The tour was generously funded by the India-Bhutan Foundation, making this enriching exchange possible.
The program was highly insightful, with well-paced sessions that allowed for meaningful reflection and interaction with staff and students. At HKIDB, the team observed a high standard of institutional quality with excellent infrastructure, inclusive learning environments, and effective resource management. The sessions were conducted by highly knowledgeable professionals, including the Director, Vice Principal, and experienced teachers, whose expertise in functional curriculum, tactile resources, and student-centered teaching made the experience truly valuable.
The visit also provided valuable exposure to innovative and practical strategies that can be adapted to enhance the quality and inclusivity of education for learners with visual and multiple disabilities at Muenselling Institute. The team further benefitted from the visit to AYJNISHD, where specialists provided one-on-one demonstrations of therapeutic and educational support comparable to renowned international standards.
The SEN Core Team extends heartfelt appreciation to the management and faculty of both HKIDB and AYJNISHD, and to the India-Bhutan Foundation for their warm hospitality, professional guidance, and generous support in making this training program possible.
